about

Magnus P.i – Penya Investigations

On the Corner’s resident Percussion Investigator, Magnus has stirred his intrepid musical adventures and global hot stepping rhythms for the Penya Investigations. From the global corners of; India, Morocco, Latin America and the streets of south London, with a cheeky little verbiage borrowed from our favourite moustachioed Hawaiian lothario we present this project. Magnus poured the alchemy of his knowledge, experience and compositions into this debut cassette E.P that flips genres, jumps time and evades the possession of a border. (There’s a hidden remix of another forthcoming OtC project buried in the release).

Is ‘Rootless’ a reference to the borrowed 308 GTS at the King Kamehameha Club, accompanied of course by Zeus and Apollo. ‘Haunted Head’ is this belonging to ‘Higgy Baby’ perchance? What is ‘Daisho’ and why do we hear ‘Simba’ roar? ‘Search it out’ did you find the answer or was it left for the five-O or T.C and the Island Hoppers?

The Penya Investigations project was born of a cab conversation in the winter of 2016; Miles Davis, demystifying percussion, textures, percussion bangers beyond genre and even more textures. More from these investigations and all that is Penya soon out On the Corner.
